The classic high five – a universal gesture of celebration, camaraderie, and achievement – has been a staple in our social interactions for decades. However, as the world evolves and our awareness of hygiene and cultural sensitivities grows, it’s worth exploring alternative ways to express the same sentiments. In this blog, we’ll delve into a variety of high five alternatives that offer unique ways to connect, celebrate, and convey positivity without compromising comfort or respect for diverse traditions.

1. The Fist Bump: A Subtle Power Move

The fist bump has surged in popularity, particularly due to its hygienic appeal. It’s a sleek and modern way to celebrate success or greet friends without the need for physical contact. This alternative carries a sense of unity and coolness, making it an excellent choice for both casual and professional settings.

2. The Air High Five: Virtual Celebrations, Real Connections

Living in an era of digital communication, the air high five has gained traction as a virtual celebration gesture. Simply raise your hand toward the camera and let your friends reciprocate on their screens. This alternative bridges the gap between physical and virtual interactions, making long-distance celebrations just as special.

3. The Jazz Hands: Unleash Your Inner Showman

For those seeking a touch of theatrics, the jazz hands gesture is a fantastic high five alternative. Mimicking the classic Broadway move, it adds an element of flair and playfulness to any celebration. Jazz hands are not only visually captivating but also inclusive, as they accommodate diverse mobility levels.

4. The Heartfelt Hand on Heart: Genuine Connection

When words fall short, a hand placed over the heart speaks volumes. This alternative to the high five taps into the deep well of human emotions. It’s perfect for conveying sincere congratulations, empathy, or gratitude, transcending language barriers and cultural differences.

5. The Elbow Tap: Hygiene Meets Respect

In a world that places a premium on hygiene, the elbow tap is a pragmatic high five alternative. By tapping elbows, you maintain a degree of physical distance while still sharing a moment of celebration or connection. It showcases your awareness of health concerns without sacrificing the essence of the gesture.

6. The Chest Bump: Celebrate with Gusto

For those seeking an energetic and vibrant way to celebrate achievements, the chest bump offers a dynamic alternative. Popular among athletes, it’s a bold and physical way to convey enthusiasm and camaraderie. However, it’s important to ensure mutual comfort and consent before attempting this exuberant gesture.

Conclusion

In a rapidly evolving world, our expressions of celebration, camaraderie, and connection must evolve too. High five alternatives provide creative ways to celebrate while considering hygiene, cultural sensitivity, and personal boundaries. Whether it’s the sleek fist bump, the heartfelt hand on heart, or the dynamic chest bump, each alternative brings its own unique charm to the table.

As we continue to navigate changing social norms and global challenges, these alternatives remind us that human connection and celebration are essential, regardless of the form they take. So, go ahead and choose the high five alternative that resonates with you – one that encapsulates your personality and values while spreading positivity in an ever-changing world.

Writing an effective essay can be a daunting task, especially if you are new to the process. But by following a few simple steps and incorporating some great tips, you can create an essay that is both compelling and informative.

The first step in the essay writing process is to choose a topic. This can be based on the assignment you are given or it can be something of personal interest. Before you begin, make sure you understand the instructions and that you can find enough information to support your essay’s main argument.

Next, you need to create an outline. This will help organize your thoughts and ensure that you cover all the necessary points in your essay. Before starting your outline, it is important to thoroughly research your topic. This will help you craft a comprehensive essay that covers all angles of the subject and provides a clear understanding of the topic.

The third step in the process is to craft your introduction. The introduction paragraph should grab the reader’s attention and provide an overview of the essay’s main argument. Your introduction should be concise and should include all the key points you plan to discuss in the body of the essay.

Following the introduction, you will then write the body of your essay. This section should provide support for each point you have made in the introduction. Each paragraph should contain only one main point and provide evidence to back it up. Supporting evidence can come from other scholarly sources, personal experience, or other applicable sources. Furthermore, make sure to transition smoothly between paragraphs and use appropriate linking words.

The conclusion paragraph is the final step in the essay writing process. This is where you will provide a summary of the main points you have discussed in the essay and conclude with a thought-provoking statement. It is important to make sure your conclusion ties in with the introduction and goes beyond simply repeating the same points.

Other tips for writing an effective essay include avoiding common mistakes, such as grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Additionally, it is important to be consistent in your writing style and to use an appropriate tone for the essay. Lastly, make sure to proofread and edit your essay for any errors before submitting it.

By following these simple steps and incorporating some great tips, you should be well on your way to crafting a well-written and effective essay. Remember to stay organized, well-researched, and write with an appropriate tone and style. Furthermore, be sure to proofread and edit your essay for any errors before submission. With a bit of practice, you should be able to write an essay that is both compelling and informative.

Behind every successful business is a team full of champions. Business experts often emphasize that one of the toughest decisions that leaders must make is assembling a competent team. Your team will be carrying out your entrepreneurial vision, so you need to have the right people in the right positions.

If you’re ready to expand your business, here are the following professionals that will be crucial to your success:

Accountants

Having a financial expert onboard means that your company will be able to maximize profits and budgets. Hiring an accountant basically means that your finances will be thoroughly managed and inspected on a regular basis.

Professionals need to meet the state requirements and pass the CPA exam to be declared as certified public accountants. These CPAs perform audits and analyze financial statements so that they can advise you on how to spend, save, and scale your businesses’ earnings. Furthermore, your growing business will need an in-house accountant to fill out and manage your taxes and income streams.

Corporate Paralegal

As your business expands, so will your responsibilities with complying with requirements and handling legal documents. To stay on top of these legal processes, your business needs to have a corporate paralegal on board.

These professionals handle sensitive matters, so corporate paralegals need to have a certification to demonstrate their proficiency in legislation. This shows their ability to help you adhere to regulatory requirements by managing the company’s license, preparing business entity documents, and assisting in corporate litigation procedures. Through their expertise, your contracts, securities, trademarks, patents, and legal documents will remain organized and up-to-date.

Customer Service Representative

Happy customers will continue to come back for more—so you need to maintain a positive relationship with your consumers by adding a customer service representative to your team. A CR’s role is to answer questions and troubleshoot any product concerns, so that you can maintain a positive relationship with your consumers.

Customer service representatives directly communicate with your consumers, so it’s crucial that they have excellent interpersonal skills. All businesses make mistakes, so having a customer service representative can help turn these negative experiences into new chances for a more positive customer experience.

Marketing Experts

Aside from managing your current customers, you also need to attract more customers with the help of marketing experts. These professionals can create specialized strategies to build your brand and gain the loyalty of your target consumers.

Marketing experts undergo educational training so that they can carry out various types of marketing strategies that can target your audience. If you have younger consumers, they can leverage influencer marketing to build awareness regarding your products and services on social media. They can also launch campaigns based on data and behavioral analytics to foster loyalty among your consumers.

Product Manager

Your company’s expansion is worth celebrating, but you need to keep preparing for further expansion by hiring a product manager. These professionals will ensure that your business remains competitive by studying new trends and driving product innovation.

Products undergo a rigorous conception, production, and launching process, which is why product managers must have analytical abilities and reliable problem-solving skills. Their skills and training allow them to develop and execute a cost-effective strategy for the product’s development and distribution. Through their expertise, you can expect that your products will remain high quality and innovative enough to stay ahead of competition.

Growing Business, Growing Team

The growth of your business will bring new challenges and opportunities, but as long as you have the right people in your team you’ll be able to make it through. While each business is different, adding the five professionals mentioned above into your team is a surefire way to keep your company on the path to growth.

The high five is a symbol of joy, celebration, and sportsmanship to some degree, and it’s something that we just know exists. Around the world, everyone knows what a high five is, and everyone knows that it symbolizes something good. But do you ever wonder where did high five come from? Who invented it, or how was it created? Well, let’s find out!

High Five Meaning and Definition

Before anything else, what exactly is a high five? If we look at the dictionary, it is both written as a noun and verb. Interestingly, the high five was only added by the Oxford English Dictionary to their list as a noun in 1980 and added as a verb in 1981. To date, the New Oxford American Dictionary sets the high five as a noun and a verb.

high five | ˌhī ˈfīv |

informal, mainly North American

noun a gesture of celebration or greeting in which two people slap each other’s open palm with their arms raised:

they gave each other an exuberant high five in the middle of the press center

verb (high-five)

[with object]

greet with a high five:

the two officers high-fived each other

Is it high five or hi five?

There are accepted permutations on spelling “high five,” but it’s seen as “high five in the dictionary.” Other words can be a variant of the term “high five” like “High 5”. Overall, if you’re looking for the exact word, you can refer to it as “high five.”

What does the expression “high five” mean?

When someone expresses “high five,” that simply really means the person is inviting you to bring up your hands and slap them together, to express something in celebration and joy.

Who invented high 5?

There are several stories of where the high five originated, but we think there’s a considerable chance that the gesture originated from something sports-related.

This particular story that commenced in 1977 is likely the most famous story of the high five originated. The story claimed that the first high five happened at the Dodger Stadium during a baseball game. The action occurred between Glen Burke and Dusty Baker of the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was said that Baker hit a home run that was significant as that home run made the Dodgers team have four players in their team with 30 home runs each. After Baker’s home run, Glenn Burke was the next batter and decided to congratulate Baker. Burke then raised his hand toward Baker, who returned the gesture and smacked hands. And so, that was the first high five.

Interestingly, the Dodgers used the high five as their form of salute and symbol of team pride that they used when a player hit a home run.

This story is well documented, though there have been other stories and claims on how the high five started.

The first documented use of the phrase “high five” was in the 1979 movie The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh. In this movie, actor Robert Townsend delivered the famous line, “Give me a high five!” Soon after, the term became widespread, and people began using it in everyday conversations.

Although Dusty Baker and Glenn Burke are credited as the inventors of the modern high five, there is evidence that it has been used in some form for much longer. Historians believe that the gesture may have originated in the military, hundreds of years ago. Soldiers would cross arms and hit each other’s wrists as a sign of camaraderie and recognition.

In 1844, the term “slap five” was used in the song “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calveras County” by Mark Twain. The phrase meant to congratulate someone on something that was done well. Similarly, in 1897, the term “slap the five” was used in Rudyard Kipling’s novel “Captains Courageous.” It is unclear whether the term was a reference to the high five, or if it is merely a coincidence.

The high five is now a popular gesture all over the world. It is used to express joy and congratulations, and is popular among sports teams as a way to show team spirit. It is also often used in comedy and television shows as a form of slapstick comedy.

Despite its long history and widespread use, the invention of the high five is still attributed to Dusty Baker and Glenn Burke. Their modern rendition of the gesture popularized it, and made it a worldwide phenomenon. In 1999, they were inducted into the High Five Hall of Fame, cementing their place in history as the inventors of the high five.

Either way, we are convinced that the high five is fun, joyful, and celebratory! High Five!

Budgeting is an essential life skill. It gives you a better understanding of your money, and if done well, it can empower you to achieve financial freedom. And while Debt.com shows that more Americans are budgeting than ever before, there are still some pitfalls that many people encounter when creating their monthly trackers.

It’s important to lay out your essential expenses first. However, AskMoney.com points out how it is easy to miss off less-obvious expenses like discretionary spending on cable, takeout services, or going to the movies. This can easily add up over time, so it’s good to include your projected expenses compared to what you actually spent.

Here are some expenses that are often overlooked and why you should find a way to reflect them in your budget:

Home and auto maintenance repairs

At some point, if you don’t take care of your car, appliances, and home, the maintenance repairs will take care of it for you. These unexpected costs can put a huge dent in your budget when you’re least expecting it, so it’s best to be proactive to avoid costly repairs down the line. Make maintenance checks a minimal expense that you spend on periodically. Ask experts how often these maintenance checks should be performed and budget accordingly. This can save you plenty in the long run, and it will ultimately make it easier to manage your budget.

Subscriptions

The list of monthly and annual subscriptions services available continues to increase as more services become available. Whether that’s for entertainment platforms like Netflix or memberships to shops like Costco, these can definitely add up once you get your credit card bill. Include these items while you go through the budgeting process which we talk about in our blog post on iHighFive.com. Know your income first, then list and group your expenses before allocating your money. This should include your subscriptions. It’s easy to overlook these small expenses, but they can add up pretty quickly if you’re not careful.

Takeouts and dining out

While food is a necessity, most of us fall into the trap of spending a bit too much on takeout and deliveries that we don’t need. These expenses are often overlooked in budgets because people try and fail to stick to the amount allotted for groceries. To curb this, CNBC.com details the 50-20-30 rule. It states that essentials should take up 50% of your income, while savings and wants should be 20% and 30% respectively. Groceries fall under essentials, but eating out and satisfying cravings do not. You don’t want to deprive yourself of these small pleasures, so make sure to allot some money for them.

Doctor’s appointments

Everybody gets sick at some point. And if you’re living in a household with lots of people, this means that doctor’s visits can multiply quite fast. Additionally, even if you aren’t sick, you still need to have routine check-ups, vaccines, and lab tests. It’s important to understand what your insurance policy covers and which appointments you’ll need to reflect in your budget. Be thorough and consider how much will be required for visits, urgent or emergency care, and prescriptions. It should all be in your budget; chances are you’ll need it at some point.

Pet care

This one might seem negligible, but pet owners need to cover their furry friend’s expenses in the budget as well. Pets need more than just food or water. They also require regular veterinary care, vaccines, preventive medications, and sometimes even emergency visits. You might even need to cover pet daycare, sitters or even boarding during trips out of town. It’s best to plan in advance for them so that your budget doesn’t suffer.

From services that give you access to all the information you could need within seconds to digital assistants that can run your life for you, modern technology has changed the way we do just about everything, and it’s also changed the way we game.

By gaming, we don’t just mean playing video games on your computer either (although that’s largely been improved as well). Most classic games, such as card and board games, have also been transformed by technology. Here’s how:

Cleans up the clutter

One major reason people tend to veer away from tabletop games is the mess. While the simplest of games will likely require little more than a deck of cards, other more involved games will come with specialized boards and pieces that you’ll need to keep track of. Setting up a good board game can take some time, and cleaning up after a long session can take even longer.

Games like Jenga have seen digital versions that let players experience the classic game without having to assemble the blocks themselves (or clean up the mess that’s made once the tower inevitably collapses). Gamers can now even play board games online through popular platforms like Board Game Arena, and with the wealth of games available, it becomes significantly cheaper to enjoy a variety of games. Even Cards Against Humanity can be played online, with gamers having access to all the expansion packs ever made. There’s virtually zero clutter, and all you’ll need is a functioning computer.

Makes math easier

Some games require some quick mental computations to be played, be it to calculate changes in currency or determine the chances of something happening. This can be an exhilarating mechanic at best, and a minor inconvenience at worst. With the help of technology, nearly all of these issues are eliminated, as you have a literal computer doing the math for you.

Ever played Monopoly and had to keep track of how much cash you had and how much change you needed to hand out? Online versions of the game take care of that. Even D&D, with its stat rolls and saving throws, has transitioned online and can now be played on Roll20, making it accessible to more casual players who don’t want to get into the finer details just yet. This doesn’t take away from the experience of playing the game – it just makes it all a bit easier (and faster-paced)!

Lets us play with friends – no matter where they are

With the pandemic hitting us, players who hold regular gaming sessions with friends have had to find some way to keep the tradition going, and the internet has presented the perfect solution. Long distances (or being trapped in your house during quarantine) no longer impede our ability to play online, as multiplayer games have become the norm.

Massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) let players interact with others from around the world, all living different experiences in the same virtual environment. Card games can also easily be played online with classic casino games being the main benefactor of this. Online poker rooms like Americas Cardroom (ACR) and Global Poker can now mimic the experience of an actual poker room. This lets you play poker with friends as well as random people from all over the world. Through platforms like Twitch and Discord, gamers can even work together to finish a game with strangers – these social experiments, although kind of wacky, show just how far technology has taken gaming.

Gives us the same experience, but better

Even the best games can get boring at some point, but with modern technology, new versions of classic games are constantly being made! This means that players who love a certain gameplay mechanic can easily find games that carry the same format.

There’s no end to the number of Scrabble-inspired games out there. The pandemic has even spawned a Monopoly-inspired game called Covidopoly (Quarantine Version), which lets you enjoy the classic mechanics with friends or strangers online. There’s also a wealth of Pictionary-inspired casual games out there that can be played on your browser, with Drawsaurus and Skribbl.io becoming popular choices during the pandemic.

Wedding planning can really be stressful, and since we’re all just human, chances are you might forget some things here and there that can potentially add some unnecessary stress on your big day. Here’s a checklist of some essential last-minute stuff you’d want to double-check on at least a few days before your big day arrives.

Pack your Wedding Bag

Whether you’re having a destination wedding or not, it’s still best to pack a Wedding bag. Having this packed beforehand will help you ensure to have all your essentials intact. If you put together your wedding bag last minute, chances are, you’ll probably forget at least one thing that you need.

Prepare Your Payments

The last thing you want is to forget to pay your vendors and suppliers. It’s always best to prepare your payments in labeled envelopes if you’re dealing with cash, or do a scheduled wire transfer for cashless transactions,

Talk to your Photographer

Make sure you have an alignment meeting with your photographer before your big day arrives. This is very handy to ensure no one is left out and all your guests are part of your wedding photos.

Delegate a Gift Caretaker

You’ll probably have a lot of difficulties receiving all your gifts personally, so it’s best to make sure you assign a gift caretaker to collate all of your presents. You can ask a bridesmaid, groomsman, or a close, trusted family member or friend to do this task.

Write Your Vows

You might get caught up with all the preparations that you forget to write down your vows! Make sure to set aside some alone and quiet time to write your vows.

Prepare for the Weather

It is always best to be extra prepared for rain. Arrange beforehand to have some umbrellas equipped at the venue to make sure you have it covered if the weather turns sour.

Pre-Order Your Meals

Never go hungry on your wedding day! Pre Ordering your meals will be one less thing to think about when your big day arrives. Remember, it’s never good to have an empty stomach on your wedding day!

Plan Your Gown Transportation

The gown is essential, so make sure transporting it is already sorted out beforehand. You wouldn’t want to deal with any gown troubles on one of the most important days of your life.

Assign Someone to Hold On To Your Documents
